Saturday's leadership election for the Denver County Republican Party was full of optimism despite an abysmal 2008 election for the party. Those elected to leadership positions concluded that now is the time to reinvest and reevaluate the party's approach in Denver, emphasizing a new strategic approach for 2010 elections.

Ryan Call elected Denver GOP chair

"Results are continuing to come in from county party leadership elections around the state. The Denver County GOP concluded their elections today and elected Ryan Call chairman along with three vice-chairs. Here are the full results:

for County Party Chairman: Ryan Call, Chairman - 85.6% (89 votes)

The Denver County GOP will say goodbye to its spunky chair Mary Smith this February. Aspiring to fill her shoes is Ryan Call, legal counsel for the Colorado Republican Party. The election for chairman is not until February 7, but Call, who is running unopposed, is already trying to build on Smith’s success.

While presumptive GOP presidential nominee John McCain has ordered a paring-down of all non-essential and political activities at the Republican National Convention due to Hurricane Gustav, Colorado's delegates are preparing for the week's activities (or whatever's left of them). And in a scene reminiscent of the DNC, Sunday protests outside the Xcel center drew more reporters than dissidents, but did generate arrests.
