Dick Wadhams, chairman of the Colorado Republican Party, had harsh words for U.S. Reps. Betsy Markey and John Salazar, who have been silent about whether they support the “Cap and Trade” proposal, which will be voted on in Congress today.

“It’s time for these two gutless Democrats to take a side for Colorado families and small business by opposing ‘Cap and Tax’ job losses, higher taxes and higher energy costs,” Wadhams said in a release Thursday afternoon.

Colorado's U.S. Representatives requested over $1 billion in appropriations funding, commonly known as earmarks, in early April. Although the earmarks have not yet gone through final approval, Rep. John Salazar, D-Manassa, was the most aggressive of the state's seven Congressional representatives, requesting 72 of the total 174 earmarks sought, for a total of $235,087,284.

Members of Colorado's Congressional delegation have released their requests for federal appropriations funding, commonly called earmarks. Of Colorado's seven representatives, six, excluding Rep. Mike Coffman, an Aurora Republican, requested earmarks totaling over $1 billion, half of which were transportation requests for the Regional Transportation District and the Colorado Department of Transportation.

"The National Republican Congressional Committee, according to a report in the Colorado Independent, has launched a radio ad against the fiscally conservative Congressman John Salazar, D-Colo., attacking his support of the economic stimulus package.

Salazar plans to stay "as long as the people will have me"

"With his appointment to the House Appropriations Committee official, Congressman John Salazar, D-Colo., said he plans to stay in Congress as long as the voters allow him.

“I plan to be here as long as the people in the 3rd (Congressional District) will have me,” Salazar said.

The soon-to-be third term congressman gave that response when asked if he planned to stay in the seat long enough “to make it count.”"
