Politicos unite in mourning loss of Rocky Mountain News

When the Rocky Mountain News announced Thursday that today's paper will be its last, politicos united in sadness by scrambling to their Facebook pages.

House Speaker Terrance Carroll’s Facebook status read, “Terrance Carroll is sad the Rocky Mountain News is closing down tomorrow.” Republican and former lawmaker Rob Witwer’s status read, “Rob Witwer is sad the last edition of the Rocky Mountain News is Friday. Goodbye, old friend.”

Good ol' boys seek rising stars

The Arapahoe County Republican Men's Club, one of the state GOP's few bright spots these days, regularly garners dozens of attendees at its Wednesday morning breakfast meetings. And while the group provides stomping grounds for some of the party's most esteemed elders, including retired Congressman Tom Tancredo and former state Senate President John Andrews, its members are seeking some fresh blood.

Backers of Amendment 52 announced Wednesday they have the full support of former state Senate President John Andrews, U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn, his primary opponent Jeff Crank, and the state’s most popular conservative radio host, Mike Rosen.

“I like 52 because it identifies a responsible revenue stream for roads and does so without new taxes,” Andrews said.
