This past week members of the Colorado State House of Representatives extensively debated, HB-1317 by Representatives Pace and McKinley, better known as the “Block Piñon Canyon Expansion” bill. This bill would effectively preclude the U.S. Department of Defense and Fort Carson from ever expanding its Piñon Canyon Training facility.

Colorado Springs resident Tom McDowell announced Wednesday he has filed paperwork to challenge state Sen. Dave Schultheis, a Republican, for the 2010 GOP nomination in Senate District 9. McDowell has never sought office before and his candidacy comes as a surprise to many, including McDowell himself, who said running has never before been a part of his plan.
