KEYSTONE — A 21-year-old Kansas man died on Saturday night after voluntarily jumping from the window of a Ford Explorer on Highway 6 and St. John Road in Keystone.
According to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Ryan Sullivan, Michael Armstrong of Bonner Springs, Kan., lost his hold while attempting to exit the vehicle through the window and collided with the roadway.
Armstrong was airlifted to Saint Anthony’s Center Hospital in Denver where he was pronounced dead. The driver, Kendra Matinez, 20, of Broomfield has been charged with Driving Under the Influence and Illegal Possession of Alcohol by an Underage Person.
The other passengers in the vehicle at the time have been identified as Jakeb Welter, 25, of Keystone, and Beau Rice, 27, of Lowman, Idaho.
Colorado State Patrol was unable to comment on the reasons behind the man’s decision to jump, but say there will be an investigation to see if alcohol and drugs were contributing factors.
