The Denver Post is flat-out broke. But don't expect the paper to go anywhere - at least not yet.

More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.

If you were to only read The Denver Post's account of its filing for bankruptcy, you'd be under the impression things aren't all that bad. The paper buried the story, downplaying its impact. The company also owns the Fort Morgan Times, the Boulder Daily Camera, and dozens of others. I don't revel in the failure of any news outlet, but The Post is trying to have it both ways: they're flat-out broke, but the company isn't substantially changing the way it does business. The Post gets to walk away from most of its obligations, but it's asking a federal judge to avoid the public shame involved with bankruptcy. Ignoring reality won't serve the paper well if it's to survive over the long haul.
