8/13: City targets plastic bags
The City of Lafayette has caught the Boulder syndrome, and it's spreading fast.
More on that in a moment on the Face The State radio minute.
Have you heard about "Boulder Syndrome?" The one where low-level bureaucrats quickly morph into power hungry politicians looking to restrict your rights. Well it's spreading east, and the City of Lafayette caught a bad case of it. They formed a "Waste Reduction Advisory" citizens committee to "raise awareness about how bad plastic bags are."
State lawmakers narrowly defeated a proposal to ban plastic bags in grocery stores. But don't expect that to be the last we here from environmental advocates on a crusade. Across the state, groups committed to scrapping plastic grocery sacks are cropping up and the "Waste Reduction Advisory" committee will surely encourage the Lafayette Council to ban those evil bags.
