4/14: Mark Udall has it both ways on 'card check'
Mark Udall the magician: he can vote "yes" while voting "no."
More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.
Mark Udall, Colorado's just-barely-senior U.S. Senator, is trying to have it both ways with the highly controversial "card check" union payback bill. The law would effectively do away with secret ballot votes in workplace elections on unionization.
The big question has been, will Democrats muster the 60 votes required to end a Republican filibuster of this horrible anti-worker law? For the longest time, Udall declined to say whether he'd fall in line with party leaders. He now says he'll help advance the bill, but that he hasn't made a decision on final passage.
Udall is protecting himself, crafting a way to pass the bill, without actually voting for it. Let's make it clear right now: A vote to end the filibuster is a vote to destroy the secret ballot.
