Why should CU students be forced to give up constitutional rights when they step foot on campus?
More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.
What’s the difference between students at the CU and their counterparts at CSU in Fort Collins? Well, besides the fact Ralphie is way cooler than Cam the Ram?
Rivalry aside, students at CSU aren’t required to give up a major constitutional right when they step foot on campus. They, along with faculty and visitors, are free to carry concealed weapons if they’re properly licensed to do so under the law.
CU students, on the other hand, are stripped of that right, guaranteed in statute and the state constitution.
The university’s gun ban does nothing to dissuade murderous criminals. It’s only effective in disarming those who would lawfully defend themselves. Given the uptick in sex assaults in Boulder, now is not the time to deny students the right to self-defense. A lawsuit is pending to overturn this shameful rule.
