Gang violence is on the rise in Greeley – or, is it?
More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.
Statistics are tricky things. By the numbers, gang shootings in Greeley are on the rise. But the police chief says those figures are misleading; the apparent increase is just from gang members becoming better marksmen.
That’s right: gangbangers aren’t shooting at each other any more than before, they’ve just learned to aim. That’s a bad thing, right?
There have been innocent Weld County victims of gang shootings, before. The bad guys can do whatever they want to each other, but a stray bullet can be devastating. So maybe it is better they’re just shooting at one another.
No, there’s nothing good about any of this. The continued gang presence in Northern Colorado isn’t an isolated problem, either. These thugs run drugs in and out of our state, on I-25 and I-70. Whatever the numbers say, it’s a trend that needs reversing.
