9/3: Big promises of big government

We heard a lot of big promises last week during the DNC. But do we want government taking such a big role in our lives?

More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.

Democrats last week promised that in the first 100 days of an Obama administration, universal “access” to health care would be priority number one.

What started as modest programs to cover the indigent and elderly, Medicaid and Medicare have now become the primary vehicle for health services to tens of millions of Americans. Many people call those programs “insurance,” but it’s really you and I – wage-earners and taxpayers – who foot the bill.

Other government health care programs, like SCHIP for children, were originally designed for poor kids, but would expand to cover millions of new children in middle class families.

Growth of government care might sound compassionate, but it’s just getting us one step closer to state control of all aspects of our lives.
