6/4: Journalistic hubris

Some journalists are ready to write off elections six months before the polls even open.

More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.

During a campaign stop in Grand Junction last week, Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate Mark Udall was asked by a reporter, 'So, do you think you've got this thing pretty much wrapped up?’

So much for objective journalism, right? I mean, “wrapped up”? Hardly. Poll after poll, reflecting in part the state's slight GOP registration advantage, shows this race anything but finished. While the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey shows Udall at 47 percent to Bob Schaffer's 41 percent, this merely reflects the consistent and critical coverage against Schaffer.

For his part, Udall responded to the reporter's question: "I'm not mailing this in. This is going to be a competitive state."

He’s right – it’s just too bad this journalist let her* bias lead her to the conclusion the election is over before it’s even begun.

For FaceTheState.com, I’m Brad Jones.
