5/26: Feel-good climate change policies

Here comes more pie-in-the-sky, feel good government policy on climate change.

More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.

The Fort Collins City Council is dedicating itself to reducing the city’s greenhouse gas emissions by eighty percent in the next 40 years. They must have a great crystal ball, because I can’t usually tell you what I’m having for dinner, much less what life is going to be like decades from now.

But, they’re trying really hard – waxing eloquent at city council meetings about what a difference they’re making for the environment. But Fort Collins is just one city – a very nice one with a good college – mind you – but a city nonetheless that can’t control the future. And for all the good vibes that they may write into the law, the air over Fort Collins is the same that wafts over the mountains from God knows where – and a bunch of new government programs aren’t going to do much to clean up the whole planet.

We’ve got enough hot air about climate change in politics. Let’s keep it out of city hall.

For FaceTheState.com, I’m Brad Jones.
