5/7: Gordon vs. Vietnam Vets

With all the important work before our state’s lawmakers, it’s a Senator’s remark about the Vietnam War that’s been making headlines at the capitol.

More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.

On the floor of the state Senate, Democrat Majority Leader Sen. Ken Gordon outraged fellow lawmakers with comments about...The Vietnam War.

Gordon specifically suggested that American soldiers calling Vietnam citizens "gooks" during the Vietnam War was akin to the dehumanizing tactics used by those guilty of genocide of American Indians or Jews in World War II.

Not only did American soldiers fight alongside one group of the Vietnamese people against another, but as Sen. Shawn Mitchell, R-Broomfield, shot back, “[The Vietnam War] was not a genocidal act against the Vietnamese people.” Mitchell went on to chide Gordon for making such a suggestion.

Gordon’s remarks were out of place and poorly chosen. Those veterans who fought in the Vietnam War deserve better.
