Diggs Brown on the Fort Collins special election
Fort Collins city councilman Diggs Brown discusses a union-backed ballot initiative which would institute binding arbitration in contract disputes.

Is the third time the charm for labor unions seeking binding arbitration rights in the City of Fort Collins? In a special election conducted by mail, voters will decide if a third-party arbitrator will have the final say on disputes over benefits, pay and other employment issues. Any such decisions would be binding on the city, even if it means busting the budget, requiring a tax increase to cover the financial liability.
The Fraternal Order of Police and the Communications Workers of America are backing the campaign for passage. This week, voters received a union-funded letter from "Karen and Tony," two "neighbors" urging a yes vote on the initiative. Representatives at the FOP say both are Fort Collins city employees, however an interview request remained unanswered by press time.
