National org ponies up for Schaffer TV ads

March 27, 2008

While a Sunday Denver Post article questioned the political soundness of U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer’s decision to keep a promise he made to voters that he would only serve three terms in Congress, a national term limits group is speaking out in favor of Schaffer’s current U.S. Senate bid.

According to Ray Wotring of US Term Limits, the Virginia-based non-profit will be running television ads in Colorado over the next few weeks to “thank Bob Schaffer for his dedicated service to Colorado.”

US Term Limits President Philip Blumel praised Schaffer for sticking to his pledge in an era when many others abandoned theirs."Bob Schaffer is a great example of what elected officials should be,” he said. “He made a promise to constituents by signing a term limits pledge and stuck to it."

Schaffer, a Fort Collins Republican, was first elected to Congress in 1996 in Colorado's Fourth Congressional District, holding the seat until 2003.
