Face The State has obtained a letter (PDF) in which state Rep. Cory Gardner, R-Yuma, asks U.S. Rep. Betsy Markey to take part in his town hall meeting planned for Aug. 19 in Fort Collins. Garnder is one of two Republicans hoping to take on Markey in next year's midterm election.
Despite the invitation's obvious political overtone, Gardner says he would like to share the stage with Markey primarily to hear from voters.
“The time for you and I to debate policy will come soon enough, but right now, at this seminal time for our great nation, it is vital that we hear from those who will bear the brunt of government burdens,” Gardner writes. He leaves Markey with his personal cell phone number should she wish to take him up on the offer (she won't.)
Markey has been slow to announce town hall meetings during the August recess, even citing security concerns as a reason for the delay.
Update: Markey announced this afternoon locations for meetings with constituents, mostly "Congress in your corner" events where small groups of voters will get roughly 20 minutes with the Representative.
