Colorado's most irreverent nonprofit fundraiser, the Independence Institute's annual Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms event, is just around the corner. In addition to the usual shooting, boozing and smoking, this year's event features Sam Wurzelbacher, better known as "Joe the Plumber."

Independence Institute boss Jon Caldara says Wurzelbacher will speak to the crowd about "enjoying your freedoms while you still have them."

Wurzelbacher gained his "Joe the Plumber" moniker after being videotaped at an Obama campaign stop in Ohio criticizing the soon-to-be elected President's policy on business taxes. The McCain campaign, especially Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, exemplified "Joe the Plumber" as another ordinary American frustrated with wasteful government spending.

Caldara calls him an "average Joe who understands the economy better than the average president."

Participants will enjoy a morning of shooting on the shotgun course at Kiowa Creek Sporting Club in Bennett, followed by drinks and cigars with lunch.

Regular attendees include Second Amendment expert David Kopel (who helped argue the Heller D.C. gun ban case before the U.S. Supreme Court), politicos from both sides of the aisle, members of the media and "average Joe" freedom fighters.
