Ritter out of town "while Colorado is burning”

Democrat Gov. Bill Ritter loves to travel. In fact, he just spent six days in Florence with the First Lady visiting their son, who is studying abroad there.

While Ritter is entitled to a vacation just like the rest of us, we have to take issue with his timing on this one. Colorado is in crisis. There is a $1 billion budget shortfall and we are in the middle of a very contentious legislative session.

Additionally, Ritter's administration has been all over ABC 7 in recent days receiving heavy criticism for a 2008 trip Ritter took to Asia that cost taxpayers more than $78,000. Yet, he hasn’t even been in the country to feel the heat.

House Minority Leader Mike May, R-Parker, was overheard saying, “Ritter is off fiddling in Rome, while Colorado is burning.”

While May got the city wrong, his analogy still applies (and in May’s defense, Florence was part of the Roman Empire). Ritter should have been at work last week.
