Ari Armstrong can't get enough of his 'food stamp diet'

Ari Armstrong is at it again, and no, we're not talking about another libertarian rant on guns, liberty, or smaller government. This time he's back on his "food stamp diet" and out to prove that daily allotments under the nation's existing food stamp program are more than sufficient for our nation's poor.

His last experiment on the food stamp diet was in August 2007, when he and his wife each ate on less than $3 a day. Since then, the allocation for food stamps has risen to more than $5 per person per day. Today's the first day of Armstrong's week-long experiment and so far he's off to a good start.

"I bought my entire week's budget this morning," said Armstrong. "I spent $32.29, which works out to $4.61 per day. Food stamp allocation for one person is currently $5.68 per day. I used 19 percent less then what food stamps would pay for me."

Armstrong isn't just out to prove that you can eat on food stamps, but you can eat healthy too. "I didn't buy one single unhealthy thing today. Nothing grain based, no vegetable oils, no refined sugar or refined sugar products. It's all natural, whole foods for what the food stamps allow."

For breakfast today, Ari ate two eggs scrambled in olive oil with diced tomatoes. He also enjoyed a cup of milk and black tea. He had not yet made plans for lunch or dinner.
