Newly elected U.S. Rep. Betsy Markey isn't in a hurry to establish a presence in Colorado's 4th Congressional District but Republicans vying to challenge her in 2010 are already lining up. Rumored to be among them is state Rep. Cory Gardner, R-Yuma, although he has yet to formalize his plans.

"I am strongly considering a run," said Gardner. "Many of my constituents believe that if I were to run, my candidacy would represent the type of district-wide appeal needed to defeat Betsy Markey."
If Gardner were to enter the 2010 Republican primary, he would at least face opposition from CU Regent Tom Lucero. The rumor mill is buzzing with other potential GOP candidates, including Fort Collins City Councilman Diggs Brown, former state Sen. Mark Hillman and current state Sen. Greg Brophy.
