Troy Eid, U.S. Attorney for Colorado, today announced he is resigning from office and will run for Colorado Attorney General in 2010. The Republican prosecutor was appointed by George W. Bush and his resignation, effective January 19, comes just a day before Democrat President-elect Barack Obama is to be sworn in. In the interim, Eid says he will return to the private practice of law with Denver firm Greenberg Traurig.

Eid's wife, Allison, was appointed by former Gov. Bill Owens to the Colorado Supreme Court to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Rebecca Love Kourlis. Mr. Eid says his wife has agreed to step down from that position should he be successful in his 2010 election bid, to avoid any conflict of interest.
