January 5, 2009

Hickenlooper's pretentious response to questionnaire

December 29, 2008

"The Denver Post emailed out brief questionnaires to eight politicians rumored to be on Bill Ritter's list to fill Ken Salazar's senate seat. Only one, Rep. Diana DeGette, bothered to answer...Hickenlooper, who has never held federal office and has no record on the issues he would face, had the most crass and tone-deaf response of all:

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper said he would respond to the questions "if appointed to the Senate.""

Ritter makes a predictable and political decision on SoS post

December 9, 2008

"Bill Ritter has announced the Secretary of State finalists. They are Ken Gordon, Andrew Romanoff, and Bernie Buescher.

As I wrote several weeks ago, Ritter had a real opportunity here to appoint someone with real experience who would put the job before politics. By opening up the process to applicants, he offered a little hope that he was actually looking for someone based on qualifications and not cronyism. Several excellent (and yes, Democratic) candidates applied including Denver County Clerk Rosemary Rodriguez and former Denver County Clerk Sherry Jackson.

2010 fundraising already underway

December 2, 2008

"It seems that talk of a primary against Ken Salazar is spreading beyond the blogosphere. The Denver Post reports that Ken Salazar is kicking off his fundraising early, in part because of anticipation of a potential costly primary:

A few factors could drive up campaign costs, he said.

Ritter, who's earned the ire of the deep -pocketed oil and gas industry this year, will have to boost fundraising efforts if Republicans quickly field a candidate with money and name recognition on par with his own, Saunders said.

The Denver Post's priorities

January 2, 2009

"Rumor and innuendo are the order of the day at the soon-to-be sole surviving, statewide newspaper. Visitors to the politics section of the Denver Post website usually see the latest stories ranked chronologically with major stories sometimes appearing with top billing. If you were to visit the site yesterday, you would see that the Post felt a two-day old story rehashing attacks on Sarah Palin and her child deserved to be at the top."

Is Salazar signaling an intent to retire in 2010?

December 11, 2008

"Rep. John Salazar appears to have taken himself out of consideration for a posting in Barack Obama's cabinet by accepting a position on the House Appropriations Committee. While Salazar might not be out of the mix for a cabinet posting, the committee assignment hardly suggests he is going to be around the House much longer. In fact, it suggests that House Demoracts might be worried about rumors of Salazar's intent to retire in 2010."

Potential candidates for Salazar's spot

December 4, 2008

"With John Salazar looking very likely to take a cabinet post in Barack Obama's administration, there is a strong possibility of a 2009 special election in CD-3. What hasn't been reported much in the blogosphere are the rampant rumors from the Western Slope that John Salazar just doesn't like being Congressman all that much and was considering stepping aside in 2010 anyway.

Here is a quick look at some of the potential candidates on both sides for CD-3."

Ritter drops the ball on immigration reform

December 1, 2008

"Among other broken promises, Bill Ritter's "The Colorado Promise" policy book from the 2006 campaign put forward the following plan on illegal immigration reform:

I support tougher enforcement along the border and swift prosecution of employers who knowingly hire undocumented workers. As Denver’s former District Attorney, I know full well the frustration of repeatedly asking INS/ICE agents to retrieve convicted illegal-immigrant felons for deportation, only to be ignored and forced to release these criminals back onto our streets.
