Led by a traditional marching band, dozens of Chinese-Americans marched around downtown Denver Monday to raise awareness about atrocities they say are being committed by the ruling Communist government in China.

The parade started its route in Civic Center Park, with the state Capitol as a backdrop as a band played “America the Beautiful.” Participants were followed by protesters carrying banners with gruesome photos of tortured Falun Gong members printed on them and anti-Communist slogans such as “Chinese Communist Party’s Crimes against Humanity guarantee its Downfall.”

Parade organizer Eric Huang, a Chinese immigrant and computer engineer in San Francisco, says he hopes the American government will take a hard line stance in the future against Chinese Communists.

“We are persecuted for our spirituality because the Communists are atheists and view us—as well as underground Christians—as threats,” Huang said.

The peaceful parade comes in stark contrast to Recreate 68 protesters who descended on the Capitol Sunday, many who advocated a communist government in America.
