Face The State Staff Report
The Republican field vying to challenge U.S. Senator Michael Bennet next year has swelled with the introduction of two political newcomers.

Luke Korkowski, a Crested Butte attorney, announced this week his “exploration of candidacy” for Bennet’s Senate seat. “My concern is that Congress and the administration are not properly addressing the economic issues,” he said.
Korkowski has already set up a Web site and says he now plans to travel the state and introduce himself to voters. He hasn’t officially filed any paperwork with the Federal Election Commission and won't be raising funds just yet. If decides to formally announce his candidacy he’ll be competing against at least four other Republicans.
Mark Evan Van Wyk, of Castle Rock, joined the Senate race at the end of May, but at the time his announcement was only publicized in the blogosphere. He has, however, filed paperwork with federal election authorities. Neither he or an Erica Van Wyk, named on a domain registration, returned phone calls. According to Scott Howard, political director for the Colorado GOP, Van Wyk has not been in touch with the state party regarding his candidacy. Van Wyk does have a Web site registered, but it was blank as of press time.
Other announced candidates include Aurora City Councilman Ryan Frazier, Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck and Denver businessman Cleve Tidwell. Former state Sen. Tom Wiens is also rumored to be considering a run.
